Another 13 storeys have been added to Andy and Terry’s treehouse and there’s a big red button that could just blow up the planet, writes Heather Zubek.
The 91-Storey Treehouse is the latest book in the mega popular Treehouse series written by Andy Griffiths and illustrated by Terry Denton.
These rock stars of the book world create all sorts of fun and nonsense in their treehouse, but don’t think it’s just a few pieces of wood nailed to a branch.
This treehouse has a bowling alley, a tank filled with man-eating sharks, a marshmallow machine and a huge chocolate waterfall.
Each new book has 13 new levels.
“But I think this one just might be my favourite of all of them,” says Andy Griffiths.
“The 91-Storey Treehouse has some new very dangerous levels, including the world’s most powerful whirlpool, a really big spider’s web (with a really big spider), a garbage dump with a mysterious old wardrobe sitting on top and a big red button that may or may not make the Earth blow up if pushed.”
The book launch on August 8 in Melbourne is not only the start of a nationwide tour but also a month of other events for book lovers.
Children’s Book Week, with author talks and school parades, begins on August 21. And the Melbourne Writers Festival has a school program starting on August 28.
How high can it go?
Luke Eaton, who’s nine, was one of the first in queue at the Melbourne launch, where he even managed to meet the authors! He’s read all the Treehouse books.
“I think one of the new levels will have a movie theatre to show the movie from their last book,” says Luke.
“If I could add a level it would have a rainforest where all the animals are friendly and want to meet you.
“I think the levels will go up and up until Andy and Terry get to at least 169 storeys, or until they run out of ideas.”
